I know, I know. I’m long overdue for a blog post. The truth is, life has gotten in the way of itself. Do you ever feel like that? You know lately I’ve spent so much time all over the place I just needed to stop. Really stop. And ask myself the ever so important question.
Why?
You know, this whole business thing is new to me. It’s easy to get caught up in things like platforms, strategies, angles, to-do lists…you start to forget the “why”. You have to keep “the why” in front of you at all times. It’s “the why” that keeps you on track. It is what reminds you of all you do…for the crazy long days of printing, cutting, bagging prints. The days you sacrifice time with your family to meet a deadline, and the hardest one for me? Those months, yes, months where all is quiet and you think, “Oh God, no one is there! Was this thing all a big mistake? Did I put my neck out there for nothing?” Well, the latter has been true for me lately.
Just keeping it real.
So why?
What is your “why”? Why do you do what you do? If you aren’t following your dream this is a tough one. If you aren’t following your dream you are surviving. There are probably good reasons for your dreams taking a back seat. Or is there? If it’s fear, that’s not a good enough reason. OK? I say this from experience so I’m allowed. 🙂
My “why”? I love art. I love painting. I love truth. And I love to marry those things together, believing you can communicate truth in a beautiful way. I use color because I love color. I use animals and flowers in my subject matter because those things give me joy. They remind me there is still beauty and happiness to be found in this ugly, chaotic world.
Truth.
So what Is your “why”? Why are you doing what you are doing? Maybe its time to stop and take inventory.
Today just may be your day to find a new “why”.
